Jordan Barringer and Ryan Knight Deny Attempted Murder of Barry Cox in Dover High Street

On August 31st 2014, a pizza delivery driver, Mr. Barry Cox, was attacked by two men in what is believed to have been an attempted robbery on his way to a friend’s house. He was stabbed several times and left with serious abdominal, chest, and back wounds that nearly claimed his life. 20-year-old Jordan Barringer and his 19-year-old friend Ryan Knight, who were on trial for the attempted murder of Barry Cox, both pleaded not guilty to the charges. Jordan was a resident of Eldred Road in Dover High Street and Ryan was a resident of Effingham Crescent, also in Dover High Street.

Barry left work at 11:30 pm on the fateful night and went to Dover Priory Railway Station to have drinks with his friends from work. About an hour later, he left his colleagues and told them he was going to Wood Street Dover to visit another one of his friends. Since the place was a short distance away, he decided to take a walk. Barry told the police that there were two men walking behind him and he suspected that they were following him. According to CCTV footage, it was evident that the two men were following Barry. Jordan and Ryan were accused of attacking Mr. Cox at the Dover Street-Wood Street junction.

Mr. Cox told the police that they made a demand for money and threatened to stab him if he did not do as he was told. He hesitated for a moment and tried to move away from them but one of his attackers stabbed him three times in his stomach. The knifeman told Barry that if he did not give them what they wanted, they would stab him again. Although Barry was bleeding profusely from the knife wounds, he claimed that he tried to run away from Ryan and Jordan but Jordan stabbed him again in the back. Despite the excruciating pain he was in, he was able to get away from his attackers. He ran into a bar in High Street where he asked for help. The police were called and he was rushed to hospital and treated for life-threatening injuries.

Jordan denied all charges against him but Ryan pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and attempted robbery. Both men were found not guilty of attempted murder but they were convicted of assault. On top of the assault charges, Ryan was also convicted of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. The ruling was made on 23rd April 2015.
