French Students Visit 1066 Country For Culinary Exchange

Nine French hospitality students have visited the town of Hastings to work in the restaurants as part of an exchange scheme formed under the Erasmus Plus project between Sussex Coast College’s Hospitality and Catering School and the Georges-Freche School of Hotel Management in Montpellier, France. There were other well-known businesses involved in the work experience, which included the Fish Café in Rye, the Mermaid Inn, St Clements Restaurant in St Leonards, astings' Webbe’s Restaurant and the Wild Mushroom Restaurant in Westfield.

During the month's placement, the students took over food preparation and service tasks in each of the restaurants, improving upon skills that had been gained through the hospitality course.

The Lycee George-Freche Tutor, Valérie Toutain said of the students time in Hastings: "The students loved their experience working in the different establishments. The students were all happy to return home and see their families, but sad to end such a wonderful experience here in Hastings.”

The head of international relations at Sussex Coast College, who has plans to send students to Montpellier in the next year to gain catering experience in France, said of the visit: "I am looking forward to developing a long-term relationship with Georges-Freche School of Hotel Management and cannot wait to send students to Montpellier next year."
